Grower's Advice

I chose this plant to exhibit since it was my only Vanda falcata type still blooming this season and it will likely be some time before we see these plants on the judging table with bloom times typically starting in June here in North America. I submitted the plant exactly the way the label stated as Vanda Kibana Teiou. Most exhibitors will not know what to include on the judging entry form and it will be up to us judges to help guide them through the process and encourage them to include notes that might be helpful as they fill out the form. This plant has a colored lip and is a deep yellow so it fits the description of the Vanda hybrid Kibana Furan with six already awarded by the AOS. Neofinetia falcata Teiou is the Japanese name for this plant and most Fukiran collectors will simply refer to it by its Japanese name only. There is some other Vanda parent in its background based on the characteristics (the fragrance of Mimi Palmer, wider flower segments, deep yellow color, heavy substance, lip midlobe shape are indicators in addition to the tell-tale yellow lip) If awarded at an AOS judging, the plant would receive a clonal name awarded as the hybrid Vanda Kibana Furan 'clonal name'.
